Uninsured vehicle fines in Greece: amounts and process
Uninsured vehicles are detected through electronic cross-checks run by the General Secretariat of Information Systems and Digital Governance, and by traffic police stops. A cross-check triggers a fine set by vehicle class — €250 for two-wheelers, €500 for passenger cars and €1,000 for public-use buses and lorries — while a roadside stop adds a fine and confiscation of the plates and registration. In an accident, the Auxiliary Fund compensates the third party and then recovers the full amount from the owner.
